‘Even though I much prefer the Moffat era and the Eleventh Doctor, I’m still extremely grateful to RTD for bringing back Doctor Who. The old series was amazing, and if he hadn’t revived it we’d have lost so much. Plus, for all his faults, he did write some great episodes and amazing companions. And though he’ll never replace Moffat’s writing in my heart, I respect him and admire him a lot. Thank you Sir, for giving us the Doctor again.’

Probably the last one of these I’ll ever reblog, and only because I agree with it completely.

I’m getting really sick of people whining about Steven Moffat.

‘I do not miss the RTD era at all. With Steven Moffat we have the mystery back, and the awesome sci-fi element that made the classic series so great. So what if the Doctor is all “emotionless” now? He’s an alien. What did you expect? He couldn’t keep coming back to contempory London and pining for Rose forever. The show had to move on from what RTD did. And I’m so glad it has.’

I disagree that Matt is “emotionless”, but I do agree on one thing: the series needed to stop being tied to modern London and Modern Earth in general.  Almost every finale, almost every premiere, every Christmas special, was just “OMG ALIENZ INVAED LONDON!!!!!11!!111!1!ONEONE!!!!!11”

‘I don’t like it when people complain about series 5 and 6 being completely different than series 1 - 4. The way RTD ended his “era” made it seem like it was the end of Doctor Who itself. Moffat can’t just bring everyone back when their story ends have already been handed to them. So he did what he could do with such a clean slate and I think he’s doing a wonderful job and has created wonderful characters.’

It’s not that he doesn’t want to use past characters liberally, it’s just likely that he CAN’T.  Besides, the show changes, producers change, and the Doctor goes on.
(And hell, even though Moffat said that he doesn’t like Rose as a character, he said that he would absolutely love to bring Jack back.  It’s just a question as to whether or not RTD would let him.)

‘I think that people who say that RTD is better than Moffat watch show for the relationships, not for sci-fi and time-travelling.’

I still watch the show for relationships when I watch Moffat’s Who.  It’s part of it.
It doesn’t affect my opinion of RTD and his weak writing at all.

‘I think it’s funny when Moffat fans call RTD fans lazy and stupid. These are the same people who are apparently wowed by plot twists like “books are made from paper!” (SITL/FOTD) or “the person all my enemies hate - IS ME!” (TPO/TBB) The irony would be really funny if it weren’t such a sad meta on low standards.’

Because Donna facerolling the Dalek empire is fantastic writing.

‘Although I love both RTD and Moffat era, I can´t help but feel like the people complaining about Moffat and saying how perfect RTD was mostly enjoyed the simplicity and direct approach he gave the show. Moffat raised the show to another level. The complexity of seasons 5 and 6 isn´t enjoyable enough for them because it requires them to think. Which in my mind makes them look a bit stupid.’

“wah people don’t like the same thing as me so they’re stupid”
Way to make Moffat fans look like a bunch of elitist idiots.

‘I hate how RTD made Death of the Doctor about Ten when he was talking to Jo. Its like he just used the episode as an excuse to justify Ten’s actions instead of bringing The Doctor back. It was an insult to Eleven to have to just keep talking about his past self, like his current self wasn’t good enough.’

I’m iffy about this.  On the one hand, he needed to fill Jo in on what he’d been up to.
On the other, RTD needs to shut the fuck up about Ten and trying to justify the fact that he fucked up his regeneration on a massive scale, causing one of the greatest Doctors of all time UP UNTIL THAT POINT to go out with a whimper instead of a bang.  YOU CANNOT JUSTIFY THAT.  YOU STILL RUINED TEN FOR ME AND MANY OTHERS, FUCKER.

‘The new 500 miles video proves one more time that RTD made it look like series 4 was the end of doctor who in general’

I have to agree with this.  I love the video, but I hate that Moffat or even the other writers that worked on the show (ie Mark Gatiss) didn’t get a nod in it.  It was basically the producers patting themselves on the back and stroking their egos onscreen.

‘I can’t help but wonder how much criticism of RTD is actually based more on his being gay than on his writing.’

I love the fact that he made LGBT issues and sexuality a part of Doctor Who.
Doesn’t change the fact that I fucking hate the man’s writing.  And his terrible monster designs.
